Baxter & Cicero Celebrates 75 Years
Baxter & Cicero Sailmakers of Newport Beach was founded in 1937, as Gardiner & Baxter,
by two corporate executives—Bud Gardiner and Bill Baxter. They wanted a sailmaking facility for their yacht on the West Coast.
Saint Cicero was brought into the company upon fulfilling his WWII military service. Saint was an active Star class sailor who also sailed aboard the schooner, Goodwill, and many other yachts. Eventually the company name was changed to Baxter & Cicero,
still the firm’s name today.
In 1982, Baxter & Cicero, Inc. was purchased from the remaining Cicero family members by Henry P. Hank
Thayer III, sailmaker and professional sailorBaxter & Cicero, Inc., and Joan Susman, business managerBaxter & Cicero, Inc. and avid sailor.
We Enable Leaders to Lead
We continue the firm’s long history of helping recreational and competitive sailors realize their dreams. William P. Bill
Ficker sailed his Baxter & Cicero sails to First Place in the 1958 World Championship of the International Star Class. (Bill’s profile and results also archived on WebCite)
We continue to enjoy helping sailors achieve their goals on the water. How may we help you realize your dreams?
